New Site Design
(Sun Jan 07, 2007) [/Web] #
If you're reading this in your favorite RSS reader, please go old-school for a second and peek at the new site design, then let me know what you think.
One big caveat: I don't consider myself a web designer. I do love doing creative stuff like web design. I've just never felt as comfortable using HTML and CSS to express my ideas as I do using Ruby or any other "server side" language.
That may sound strange coming from a self-described Rails programmer. But while using Rails has certainly inspired me to learn more about web design, it's not my strong suit. On all but the trivial Rails apps I've worked on we've had good folks who specialize in web design create the look and feel. I can't overemphasize how important it's been to get them involved early in the process!
Having said that, I like learning new things and I've really enjoyed being a student of web design this past year. It's something I'd like to continually improve on. So, in much the same way that sharing Ruby code has helped me learn Ruby better, I'd appreciate any constructive criticism you'd share about the new site design. Layout, colors, typography, and content: it's all fair game! Contributing actual bits earns you my eternal gratitude. :-)
(If enough folks are interested, I'll post a list of books that have been helpful in my study.)
Thanks!
