James on Rails Deployment
You've coded up your first killer Rails app. It came together in record time. You don't recall programming ever being this fun. Perhaps you'll top it off with an early vacation. Ah, but don't forget: You still need to deploy it onto a production server! Take the high road and you could be on the beach by the afternoon. Take the low road and the closest you'll get to warm sand is that potted cactus under your office lamp.
Deploying your Rails app doesn't have to be difficult. Unfortunately, definitive deployment guides have been lacking. That is, until James put his shoulder to the wheel and started writing a great series of deployment recipes:
- Real Lessons for Rails Deployment
- Deploying Rails with LightTPD
- Virtual Hosting Rails Applications with LightTPD
- Stay tuned for an Apache recipe...
This stuff is as fresh and good as it gets, folks. James isn't just writing about deployment, he's living and breathing it on one of the Rails projects we've been working on and several others. So you can think of these recipes as developer notes born out of hard-won wisdom. Read 'em now so you have the goal in mind, tuck 'em away for when that day comes, and by all means enjoy that vacation.
